The Madison County Airing of the Quilts celebrates the history, tradition, and artistry of quilting in Iowa! Hundreds of quilts are displayed in dozens of historical and cultural landmarks across our picturesque county. This unique event is one that you don’t want to miss!
These locations include the famous covered bridges, the grand 1870s courthouse, the Winterset City Park, which recently received designation on the National Registry of Historic Places, and the Madison County Historical Complex, just to name a few. The celebration will also include a Quilt Walk through one of Winterset's historic neighborhoods where quilts are artfully displayed on porch rails, patios, front stoops and other outdoor areas.
The Airing of the Quilts is meant to serve both as a celebration of the rich quilting heritage in our state, and as a fundraiser for the Iowa Quilt Museum. All proceeds benefit the Iowa Quilt Museum and our mission to promote appreciation of the American quilt and the art of quiltmaking.
